THE PRIVATE PILOT REPORTED HE LANDED A LITTLE LONG AND A LITTLE FAST. THE PILOT STATED DURING THE LANDING ROLL THE AIRPLANE HIT A BUMP IN THE GRASS RUNWAY, CAUSING HIM TO INADVERTENTLY APPLY EXCESSIVE PRESSURE TO THE LEFT BRAKE. THE AIRPLANE VEERED OFF THE RUNWAY AND COLLIDED WITH A TREE.
On June 11, 1994, at 0925 central daylight time, an Aeronca 7AC, N83019, piloted by the registered owner/private pilot, sustained substantial damage while landing on a private grass strip near Clear Lake, Minnesota. The airplane veered off the left side of the grass strip and collided with a tree. The pilot and the two passengers on board the airplane reported no injuries. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the local pleasure flight, no flight plan was filed. The flight operated under 14 CFR Part 91, and originated from Clear Lake, Minnesota, exact time unknown. The pilot reported he had taken his grandchildren for a local pleasure flight. He stated when they returned to the private strip, he "...landed a little longer than usual, maybe a little fast...I was tapping the brakes to stop...the airplane hit a hump near the end of the runway and I inadvertently jammed the left brake. The airplane just veered straight into the tree." The pilot stated there was no mechanical malfunction.
