THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE MADE A NORMAL APPROACH AND LANDING AT A PRIVATE TURF STRIP WHEN DURING THE LANDING ROLL THE MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED. THE AIRPLANE WAS EXAMINED BY THE FAA AND IT WAS REVEALED THAT THE MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED DUE TO FATIGUE FAILURE.
On August 27, 1994, at 1200 eastern daylight time, N9885A, a Cessna 195B, owned and operated by David Swanson of Wakefield, New Hampshire, crashed during landing at a private strip in Ossipee, New Hampshire. The certificated airline transport pilot and his passenger were not injured. The airplane was substantially damaged. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and a flight plan was not filed. The personal flight was operated under 14 CFR 91 and had originated in Sanford, Maine. The pilot reported that he made a normal approach to the airstrip. He stated that the airplane touched down and during the landing roll the main landing gear broke and the airplane ground-looped. The landing gear was examined by an FAA Aviation Safety Inspector who reported that the left main gear folded during the roll out due to fatigue failure.
