WHILE MANEUVERING ON AN AERIAL APPLICATION/SWATH RUN OVER A COTTON FIELD, THE PILOT INADVERTENTLY DESCENDED INTO THE FIELD RESULTING IN THE MAIN GEAR BECOMING ENTANGLED IN THE COTTON. THE AIRPLANE CONTINUED FORWARD BEFORE IT NOSED OVER AND CAME TO REST INVERTED. THE AIRPLANE WAS DESTROYED BY A POSTCRASH FIRE.
On August 4, 1994, about 1700 central daylight time, an Ayres Corporation S2R, N4007P, registered to Cane Lake Aero Inc., operating as a 14 CFR Part 137 aerial application flight, collided with cotton while making a spray run in the vicinity of Ruleville, Mississippi, and crashed. The commercial pilot sustained no injury. The airplane was destroyed by postcrash fire. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed. The flight originated from a private airfield about 15 minutes before the accident. The pilot stated to the FAA that he was making a spray run over the cotton field to the south when his main landing gear became entangled in the cotton. The airplane continued forward about 50 to 60 yards before it nosed over. The pilot smelled fuel and exited the airplane uninjured. While walking to a service road to obtain help, the airplane was destroyed by a postcrash fire. In addition the pilot stated he was not paying attention and inadvertently descended into the cotton field. The accident was reported to the FAA on August 8, 1994, and subsequently reported to the NTSB by the FAA on August 9, 1994.
