Analysis

DURING LANDING ROLL THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AND NOSED OVER. THE PILOT STATED THAT NO MECHANICAL DISCREPANCIES WERE FOUND.

Factual Information

On August 15, 1993, at approximately 1200 mountain daylight time, a Cessna 140, N1142D, was substantially damaged when it nosed over after landing at a private airstrip near Lake Arthur, New Mexico. The private pilot was not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for this local area personal flight. According to the pilot after a landing roll of 200 to 300 feet, the aircraft veered to the left, departed the side of the runway for undetermined reasons, and nosed over. During an interview, conducted by a Federal Aviation Administration inspector, the pilot stated that no mechanical discrepancies were found.

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT DURING LANDING ROLL.
