THE PILOT STATED THAT THE LOCAL WINDS WERE FROM 090 DEGREES AT 20 KNOTS. THE LANDING WAS MADE ON RUNWAY 36, WHICH ACCORDING TO THE PILOT WAS ICE COVERED. AFTER TOUCHDOWN, THE AIRPLANE TRAVELED TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, WHERE IT HIT A SNOWBANK AND THE NOSE GEARS COLLAPSED.
On January 19, 1994, at 1500 central standard time, a Cessna 210M, N761AG, registered to Daris Almond, collided with a snowbank during a landing roll on Runway 36 at the Festus Memorial Airport, Festus, Missouri, while on a personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and no flight plan was filed. The airplane was substantially damaged and the pilot was not injured. The flight originated from Jefferson, Missouri,on January 19, 1994, at 1430 cst. The pilot stated the local winds at the Festus Memorial Airport were from 090 degrees at 20 knots so he landed with the right wing down and left rudder. He stated that when the right main gear touched the runway, he felt the airplane "being pushed" to the left on the icy runway. The airplane continued to the left side of the runway where the left main gear contacted a snowbank. According to the pilot, the airplane turned sharply to the left and the nose gear also collapsed after hitting the snowbank.
IMPROPER PLANNING/DECISION BY THE PILOT. FACTORS RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT WERE: THE ICY RUNWAY, CROSSWIND AND SNOWBANK.
