THE METALLURGICAL REPORT STATED,'THESE OXIDES MOST LIKELY PROVIDED STRESS RISERS WHICH CONCENTRATED STRESSES IN THE CRANKSHAFT TO DEVELOP CRACKS UNDER CYCLIC LOADING.' THE CRACKS PROPAGATED UNTIL FAILURE OCCURRED.
