DURING DESCENT FROM CRUISE FOR LANDING THE ENGINE MOMENTARILY RAN ROUGH AND THEN QUIT. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO LAND ONTO A ROAD BUT STRUCK A TELEPHONE POLE IN FLIGHT. THE AIRCRAFT THEN DESCENDED ONTO THE GROUND NOSE FIRST. NO REASON FOR THE ENGINE FAILURE COULD BE DETERMINED BY AN A & P MECHANIC.
