The airplane was damaged when it nosed over during landing on a private airstrip. The pilot reported that he landed normally, but the airpplane's nose landing gear dug into the turf runway and the airplane subsequently nosed over. A postaccident examination of the airplane revealed that the nose gear tire was flat due to a nail puncture.
On November 19, 2002, about 1400 central standard time, an amateur-built RV-6A, N94KT, piloted by a private pilot, sustained substantial damage when it nosed over during landing on the owner's private airstrip near Belton, Missouri. The 14 CFR Part 91 personal flight was operating in visual meteorological conditions without a flight plan. The pilot, who was the sole occupant, received minor injuries. The flight departed from Phillip Billird Municipal Airport, Topeka, Kansas, at 1343. In his written report, the pilot said that he landed normally, but the airpplane's nose landing gear dug into the turf runway and the airplane subsequently nosed over. A postaccident examination of the airplane revealed that the nose gear tire was flat due to a nail puncture.
