Factual Information

On June 6, 2009, Japan Airlines flight 653, a Boeing 767-300, registration JA-613J, experienced a cabin fire during approach to Taoyuan International Airport (TPE/RCTP), Taipei, Taiwan. The remains of a charred lighter were found in the nook between a seat belt root lock and the seat cushion. There were no injuries to the passengers or crew and the airplane received minor damage.The investigation is being conducted by the Taiwan Aviation Safety Council. The NTSB has assigned an Accredited Representative to assist the investigation as the Country of Manufacture and Design of the airplane.
