Factual Information

On August 5, 2010, at 2217 UTC, a Cessna 402-C, J8-SXY, operated by St. Vincent Grenadines Air Limited, was destroyed following an in-flight breakup about 7 minutes after departure from E.T. Joshua Airport (TVSV), Kingstown, St. Vincent. The airplane was on a domestic VFR flight to the Island of Canouan (TVSC). The pilot, the only person on board, was killed. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the flight. According to preliminary information from the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA), the pilot reported to the E.T. Joshua tower controller that he noticed a "serious vibration on the aircraft," at 2217. The controller attempted to re-establish contact with the airplane several times, but no further transmissions were received from the pilot. A witness reported observing fragments of the airplane falling to the water prior to impact. The weather at TVSV at the time of the accident included wind from 120 degrees at 9 knots, visibility of 10 miles, and no reported precipitation.
