SIKORSKY S76
A Helijet Sikorsky S-76A helicopter was just about to land on a small floating heli-pad at the fishing lodge on Langara Island, when the pilot heard a loud bang and the #2 (right)engine (Rolls-Royce 250-C30) lost power. The pilot carried out an emergency landing on the water close to the pad and activated the emergency flotation. All the floats inflated and the helicopter was shutdown. After the rotor stopped, the pilot noticed the helicopter listing and called for an evacuation. The helicopter subsequently rolled inverted in the water; floated by only floats on one side. The two occupants, the pilot and a passenger, escaped without getting wet and with no injuries. The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) of Canada is investigating the accident. As the state of manufacture of the rotorcraft and engines, the NTSB has designated a U.S. Accredited Representative under the provisions of Annex 13 to the Convention on Civil Aviation to assist the TSB in their investigation.
