Factual Information

On March 7, 2016, about 1410 coordinated universal time, Piper PA28-140, South African registration ZS-EXV, was destroyed when it impacted terrain during an emergency landing to Mountain View Airfield (FAMV), Johannesburg, South Africa. The pilot and a passenger were fatally injured. The flight departed Lanseria International Airport (FALA), Johannesburg, South Africa, with an intended destination of Wonderboom Airport (FAWB), Pretoria, South Africa.The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) Accident and Incident Investigations Division (AIID) is investigating the accident. As the State of Manufacture and Design of the airplane and engine, the NTSB has appointed a US Accredited Representative under the provisions of ICAO Annex 13 to assist the AIID in its investigation.
