On August 8, 2017, about 1513 coordinated universal time (UTC), a Cessna U206G, 8R-GPR, was substantially damaged during a forced landing in trees shortly after takeoff from Eteringbang Airstrip (SYET), Eteringbang, Cuyuni-Mazaruni Region, Guyana. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and no flight plan was filed for the commercial cargo flight. The pilot sustained serious injuries. The flight originated about 1512 UTC from SYET, and was destined for Ekereku Bottom Airport (SYEK), Ekereku, Cuyuni-Mazaruni Region, Guyana.Shortly after takeoff, between 200 and 300 ft above ground level, and with the fuel selector positioned to the right tank which contained about 25 gallons of fuel, the pilot reported hearing a decrease in engine rpm, with a corresponding loss of altitude. He initiated a descent for an off-airport forced landing, and impacted trees of a rain forest about 1-mile from the departure airstrip. The engine, which had about 1,500 hours since new, and the propeller will be retained for further examination. The accident investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Government of Guyana.
