Analysis

According to the pilot, while landing at an unfamiliar airport, he landed with excessive airspeed and touched down too far down the runway to safely stop. The airplane subsequently departed the grass runway and impacted a fence. The airplane sustained substantial damage to both wings. The pilot reported that there were no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures that would have precluded normal operation.

Probable Cause and Findings

The pilot's failure to maintain an appropriate final approach airspeed, which resulted in a runway excursion and impact with a fence.
