Factual Information

On December 24, 2022, about 1653 Pacific standard time, a Beech V35B, N65Y, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident at the Livermore Municipal Airport, Livermore, California. The pilot was seriously injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot reported that he departed runway 7L with the intention of remaining within the airport traffic pattern. During takeoff initial climb, the door opened. He then slowed the airplane and recalled hearing the tower controller say, “climb climb climb.” The pilot realized the airplane was descending and he “pushed the throttle in” with no response from the engine. The airplane continued to descend and impacted a building about 2,800 ft beyond the departure end of runway 7L. Postaccident examination of the airplane by a Federal Aviation Administration inspector revealed that the fuselage was substantially damaged. The wreckage was recovered to a secure location for further examination.
